Procurement That Performs
You spend a fortune with your suppliers. A year later, you cannot say what most of it actually bought you. Procurement That Performs is a plain, practical workbook for the owner or manager who signs off real supplier spend, has no procurement team, and is tired of buying on price and hoping. It shows you how to turn supplier spend into growth and performance, and where AI genuinely earns its place.
Written by a training and compliance practitioner who builds and accredits courses for a living.
You spend a fortune with your suppliers. A year later, you cannot say what it bought you.
Spending is not buying. Most supplier spend is reactive, price-led and invisible, and it quietly leaks the growth and margin you were working so hard to earn. This workbook fixes that. It walks you through one clear method, step by step, with a fill-in tool in every chapter, and works the subject at three levels at once: the strategic view of where your money matters, the operational system that runs your buying, and the tactical discipline on the individual deal.
Inside, you will learn how to
- See where your money really goes, and which few suppliers dominate it.
- Sort your spend strategically and choose suppliers on value, not just price.
- Negotiate a better deal, and know where hard bargaining belongs and where it backfires.
- Put AI to work where it earns its place, and ignore the rest.
- Prove the growth and performance in numbers, with no software and no budget.
Every idea is grounded in a real, cited company case from the UK, Europe and the USA: how Apple turned buying into a strategic weapon, what the Boeing 787 and Rolls-Royce reveal about price versus value, and how a factory fire separated Nokia from Ericsson, among others. Eleven ready-to-use tools and a Sector Playbooks appendix that points the method at your own floor.
Who it is for
Written for the person who signs off the spend and has to make it pay, without a procurement team.
Owners and managers who sign off spend
You approve the invoices and you carry the cost, but there is no procurement team. This is a method you can run yourself.
Operators tired of buying on price
You have bought on price and hoped, and watched the margin leak. This shows you how to buy on value, and prove it.
Anyone weighing up AI in buying
Cut through the hype. The book shows the few places AI earns its place, and how to bring a tool in without walking into the legal duty that now sits with you as the buyer.
What you take away
A simple, repeatable way to turn supplier spend into a growth and performance you can see in the numbers.
- A clear read of where your money actually goes, and the few suppliers that dominate it.
- A way to sort spend strategically and choose suppliers on value, not just the lowest price.
- Eleven ready-to-use tools, one in every chapter, from spend map to negotiation to proof.
- An honest guide to where AI earns its place in buying, and where it does not.
- A Sector Playbooks appendix that points the method at your own floor.
