Short answer

Most course projects go wrong before anyone writes a word: the wrong format for the skill, more interaction than the topic needs, or a course built one way when it later needs to be certified another. These ten questions match your course to a format, a level of interaction and a sensible first step, so you know what to ask for before you speak to anyone, us included.

Ten questions about one course

1. Who is the course for?
2. How many people will take it in the first year?
3. Where are they?
4. By the end, what should people be able to do?

Pick the one closest to the main point of the course.

5. What happens if someone gets it wrong at work?
6. How much practice with a trainer does it need?
7. What do you have already?
8. How much learning is it?
9. Do you have a learning platform?

A learning management system (LMS), such as Moodle, LearnWorlds or TalentLMS.

10. Will you want the course recognised?

How the planner decides

The planner follows the same reasoning we use on a scoping call. It weighs four things.

What it looks atWhy it matters
The skillRules and facts suit self-paced eLearning. Hands-on skills and judgement calls usually need time with a trainer.
What a mistake costsThe higher the stakes, the more practice the course should build in, which moves it up the levels of interaction.
Your learnersLarge or spread-out groups favour eLearning or a blend. A small group in one place can often be trained live more cheaply.
What you haveExisting slides or a course you already run can be converted or rebuilt. If nothing is written yet, we plan it first with a blueprint.

If you tell us you want the course recognised later, the plan says so, because a course built to CPD or accreditation standard from the start saves rebuilding it.

What happens after the planner

Bring your result to a 30 minute scoping call. One named person will check the plan with you and turn it into a written scope, with stages and a price, before any building starts. If you are not sure how interactive each module should be, the eLearning level finder answers that one module at a time. If the course is already built and you want it recognised, try the readiness check.

Prices for every package are on the packages page.

Common questions

Is the course development planner free?

Yes. It costs nothing and you do not need to give us your details to see the result.

Is the plan a quote?

No. It points you to a format, a level and a first step. The written scope, stages and price come after a scoping call, once we have seen what you have.

Do you keep my answers?

No. The planner runs in your browser and nothing is sent to us. If you choose to book a call or send an enquiry, we see only what you send.

Can I plan more than one course?

Yes. Run it once per course. Where you have several that belong together, the planner points you to a series or programme instead.

What if the planner and my own view disagree?

Tell us on the call. The planner is a starting point. You know your learners, and the scope we agree is built around them.

  • One course or programme, reviewed by a named person
  • A written note on what it needs
  • The package that fits, so you know where to start
